Food has always been of the utmost importance to me. Not just the delivery of nutrients, but as a family focal point, as part of a community identity, as an art-form, as an experiment-form, and as wonderful, beautiful, often punny subjects.

I can’t claim to have a great working knowledge of popular culture or communicate effectively through movie quotes but I do occasionally enjoy inviting other created worlds into my own.


I started playing the ukulele about 5 years ago. 3 years ago I decided to build my own travel ukulele. It was a woodworking experiment that helped me to better understand the ukulele, its sound, and its personality.


And of course I will totally fan the flames of a friend’s sports passion. Here is a cornhole set for the biggest Maryland supporter I know.


I don’t often paint buildings but quite a few years ago I painted my parents house in Washington DC and my aunt’s restaurant in Exeter PA. Painting portraits of buildings that I’d known for years made me appreciate that the rich personalities and stories that bring structures to life.
